I know Android runs on Linux but you program in Java. I think Blackberry is also in Java. How about Samsung? (the market leader in the USA). Or Nokia (market leader worldwide). Someone else told me just to program in Mono and it can be ported to all platforms. Anyone know about that? Right now I'm programming Android on Fedora 8 and 10 in Eclipse and it works very well except for the 30 seconds or so to start the emulator. I'm thinking about taking this iPhone boot camp course: http://iphoneclt.eventbrite.com/ but it just seems like too many platforms to try to target. It says "The iPhone Development Accelerator (IDA) course is specifically designed to take you from zero to a working application as quickly as possible. " but what I really need is some course that tells me how to write once and run everywhere. Even Java cannot do it as it has different UI libraries on each phone from what I can tell. Anyone know what is the best approach? The mono thing? Is everyone just making separate apps for every single phone? Thanks! Create more. Deploy everywhere. For embedded platforms there is already full support for both embedded Linux phone OS's and windows mobile OS's. Since Qt Software is owned by Nokia now they also have released a Symbian S60 OS demo release so its only a matter of time before you will be able to deploy to S60 powered Nokia phones as well. Check out this tech demo here: http://www.qtsoftware.com/developer/technical-preview-qt-for-s60 So if maybe you are interested in deploying to desktops as well as phones and other embedded devices you should check out Qt 4. If you have any more questions regarding this path let me know. I was using RHCE Study Guide, 5th edition by Michael Jang McGrawHill / Osborne ISBN 0-07-226454-3 as well as the manuals for RHEL 5 from Red Hat: https://www.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/pdf/Installati= on_Guide.pdf https://www.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/pdf/Deployment= _Guide.pdf Basically if you can do everything that's in the Red Hat RHCE Prep Guide - http://www.redhat.com/certification/rhce/prep_guide/ you should be able to pass. One of the most difficult things about the Installation & Configuration part of the test is that the time is quite limited. While a few people including me were able to complete the Troubleshooting part of the test 30 to 45 min ahead of time, I don't think anyone was able to complete all of the objectives of the I&C part on time. You just have to pick and choose which objectives to complete and as long as you get enough points you will be OK. I am the speaker coordinator for the Southeast Linuxfest, and I'm just making the rounds to give the community at large a final heads up on the Southeast Linuxfest, and recruit volunteers. What is the Southeast Linuxfest? The SouthEast LinuxFest is a community event for anyone who wants to learn more about Linux and Free & Open Source software. It is part educational conference, and part social gathering. Like Linux itself, it is shared with attendees of all skill levels to communicate tips, ideas, and to benefit all who use Linux/Free and Open Source Software. LinuxFest is the place to learn, to make new friends, to network with new business partners, and most importantly, to have fun! So no longer do you need to drive to Ohio for OLF or Los Angelos for SCaLE. We're bringing back the spirit of the old Atlanta Linux Showcase, and making sure that there will once again be a major Linux event in the GNU/South indefinitely. Our first annual event will be June 13th, at Hendrix Student Center on the campus of Clemson University, Clemson, SC. Doors open to the public at 8:30 AM, and "officially" close at 6:00 PM. There will be a pre-party at 8:00 PM June 12th, and a post-party after the event June 13th. Our speaker lineup includes: Keith Bergelt; Open Invention Network Joe "Zonker" Brockmeier; OpenSuse Russell Bryant; Digium Greg DeKoenigsberg; Red Hat Chris DiBona; Google Paul Frields; Fedora Ian Geiser; The KDE Project Ryan "Icculus" Gordon; The Linux Games Industry Pete Graner; Canonical/Ubuntu Michelle and Michael Hall; QuinnCo / Qimo Alan Hicks; Slackware D. Richard Hipp; SQLite, CVSTrac, Fossil Brian Leonard; Sun Microsystems Semmy Purewal; College of Charleston Clint Savage; Fedora Wendy Seltzer; EFF Mark Spencer; Digium Richard Weait; OpenStreetMap Chad Wollenberg; Linux Basement Robby Workman; Slackware We will need volunteers to do everything from registration to shuttle service to and from major airports for our speakers.
