howto install Puppy to hdd
1. download Puppy 2.17.1 (95 MB)
ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/
2. burn ISO, run liveCD (woof woof)
3. use resident GParted to create partitions
Menu > System > GParted
4. run Puppy universal installer
Menu > Setup > Puppy universal installer
5. follow onscreen instructions to install Puppy (read
carefully)
6. after installing grub to MBR, close installer,
reboot computer with no liveCD
7. from Desktop, edit /boot/grub/menu.lst: uncomment
timeout, set to 5 secs, save, exit
8. run Network Wizard to configure cable connection:
eth0 > AutoDHCP > OK
Menu > Setup > Network Wizard
9. use PupDial to configure modem dialup
Menu > Network > PupDial
10. custom packages http://dotpups.de/dotpups/
TOTAL TIME: 20 minutes
Note: The latest Puppy is 3.01 which has Slackware
compatibility. However, 3.01 has a few bugs, for
example, gxine freezes. So I recommend the preceding
version 2.17.1, which enjoys enhanced modem support.
