Your link did not work for me but it sounds like you are downloading files
with *.rar extension.
I use a freeware app - 7zip ( http://www.7-zip.org ) - it uncompresses many
file types including *.rar and its own compression is better than anything
I've tried so far.
You can download it for Windows as well as for many variants of Linux -
