At our last Tuesday nite meeting, one member discussed
disappointment with Puppy in that a system monitor was
showing low ram availability on the task bar. Right
now, I am running Puppy 2.17.1 on a 900mhz Athlon with
512 MB ram, and a 20 GB hdd. The ram usage is showing
"12.5G", that's 12.5 GB. So I suspect that your low
reading of 5 MB was actually a reading of the free
disk space and was actually 5 GB. If you run Puppy as
a liveCD, the same monitor will show a value
reflecting the ram plus the swap partition if that is
enabled on the hard drive. Give Puppy another try, see
if that value was actually "5.0G"
