Welcome to CharLUG! My claim to fame is as acting chairman for the time
being. I'm also the Editor-in-Chief of LXer.com and wrote a book about
deploying GNU/Linux in religious organizations. I'm probably also famous
for having just enough skills to write about Linux without ever getting a
real IT job.
I'm Lawrence, been playing around with Linux since the kernel 2.0 days

I'm familiar with Zenwalk, though I am supposed to be installing VectorLinux
soon. I started tinkering with GNU/Linux in the Red Hat 5.1 days, and went
full-time with SUSE 9.2. I've played with Ubuntu and Debian, with Debian
being my current staple.
Apart from Linux, I also work a lot with BSD.. specifically OpenBSD on

Maybe you should consider teaching a Snort - or any of the other tools -
class for the LUG one Saturday morning. ;-)
My technical interests revolve around Internet security.. mainly how to

We have another security guru running around here somewhere. He might just
pop up and say something. The list is fairly quiet, though there are the
occasional discussions. Anyway, I hope we'll see you at a meeting one day.

I'm not aware of a BSD user group here, but that doesn't mean there isn't
one. I believe there are some Perlmongers and even Python folks around, and
the Snort rep I spoke with at the recent Angelbeat conference suggested he
has seen some interest in a Snort user group in this area.
Welcome aboard!
