Hello,
I'm a relatively new member to CharLUG.. been hanging around on the
mailing list for a while but haven't yet found time to attend a meeting.
Anyway just wanted to drop by and say hi to everyone with a little short
intro..
I'm Lawrence, been playing around with Linux since the kernel 2.0 days
(Slackware 3.5). That was probably 1997 I believe. In between then and
now, I've dabbled with Red Hat, Debian, and Ubuntu, but with Slackware
most of all. I'm currently running Zenwalk, a Slackware derivative,
because it's much easier and quicker to set up as a desktop OS (work
catches up with spare time!).
Apart from Linux, I also work a lot with BSD.. specifically OpenBSD on
servers and gateway devices. The company I'm with, Calyptix Security,
makes the AccessEnforcer, an all-in-one Internet security appliance for
small and medium-sized businesses, and it's based on OpenBSD. We also
use a number of open source security software, including Snort. We're
located right here on Mallard Creek Rd in the University City area.
My technical interests revolve around Internet security.. mainly how to
apply security technologies to solve practical real-world needs. I also
do research in security, where I've published and presented a number of
papers on intrusion detection/prevention and related areas at various
conferences in my former life as a student at UNCC.
Lawrence
p/s: I was wondering if there are any BSD enthusiasts in CharLUG.. I
wasn't able to locate a BSD user group in Charlotte, so just curious. :)
