Ennis,

"The core of the Zonbu operating system is in read only mode and by default, the system restricts the privileges you have to run an application."

"The Zonbu device does not have a hard disk. Instead, a 4GB compact flash (similar to what digital cameras and MP3 players use) stores the operating system and the applications which have been installed. The remaining space of the compact flash is used as a cache to store local copies of files you've recently used; special software keeps these copies synchronized with the online storage servers."

>From these statements in Zonbu Support, I'm inclined to say, no, you dont have privileges to install programs. The Zonbu program is for a thin client. I am guessing you could run programs from a USB pen drive.

While most of the mini PCs are thin clients, many can be stand-alone desktop computers as well. Samsung offers a 32GB solid state hard drive, and very soon will introduce a 64GB solid state hard drive. Some of the mini PCs have a space for a laptop hard drive inside the small case.

 Ken:

Do you know if the Zonbu Zonbox will allow the user to have root access?

That is, will you be able to install your own applications on the box?

The ads talk about their 'canned' applications only.
