Don,

I can't tell you the best method for the DNS setup, but I did discover
something interesting about using .local.  If you think you are going to be
putting a MAC onto your local network, you may want to use .lan instead.  A
couple of the 10.x MAC boxes we were testing on a .local network recently
were not looking up hosts properly, switching to .lan made everything
resolve properly.
