[Charlug] E-Mail & DNS

I am reviewing a book on Linux e-mail servers. Part of my review
methodology involves following the book's instructions. I have a potential
dilemma since, when I installed the various systems, I called my local
domain =3D matheteuo.local
I also recently setup the dyn-dns service using the domain =3D
matheteuo.homelinx.net
I thought I would change my boxes to use the matheteuo.homelinux.net domain.
I used the Networking admin tool in GNOME/KDE to give my boxes the new
domain name (all of these had been empty, btw), but when I rebooted the
domain name boxes were empty again. Thus, it appears that the domain name
editing did not take effect. Do I need to add the dyn-dns server as a DNS
server (currently using my ISP's DNS servers for lookups)?
I suppose I could stick with my current matheteuo.local convention, or get
into DNS service, in order to get my mail server up and running. I'm just a
bit confused about getting the DNS part correct. The issue seems important
since I need to specify the host & domain name in postfix' main.cf file.
BTW, this might make a great discussion topic for an upcoming meeting.
Thanks in advance,
Don
